I copied a couple of updates by her daughter Kim so you'd know.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thank you for all the prayers and well wishes for mom. Sorry it has taken so long to update. As you all know, mom had surgery in May. She has since faced some obstacles in her recovery. Early in June she was hospitalized again. She had an issue with dehydration and suffered 2 small strokes which affected her eyesight and memory. She was sent home after a few days, but has struggled to stay hydrated. Her memory and eyesight improves daily. This past week it was discovered the she has several ulcers, which has led to other issues. She is currently in the hospital recovering from that. While in the hospital it has been noted that she has some mild cardiac damage. Because of that they are keeping her for a couple of days to keep an extra eye on her and give her time to recover. She has also been diagnosed with Metastic Colon Cancer. A plan of action is in the works on the cancer front. As you can imagine, it has been an incredibly stressful and hectic time. Mom is hanging in there and taking it one day at a time. She is a tough cookie and has a great team of doctors and nurses working with her.
Thank you again for your prayers and concern. They mean so much to her.
Good afternoon !! Just checking in to give you an update on Mom.
On August 6th, mom fell and hit her head and back. A trip to the hospital was necessary. In the hours following the fall we noticed some anomalies in her actions. After several tests and scans it was discovered that she had suffered 2 debilitating strokes. These strokes were much more damaging than the 2 smaller strokes earlier this summer. She was having troubles with her speech, and she was unable to use her left hand/arm and was unable to walk. She stayed in the hospital for about a week and a half. After that time she was transferred to a rehabilitation facility in St. Charles. While there, she had issues with seizures and struggled with dehydration. She received therapy there for about a week and a half when it was determined that she would need long term therapy. On Friday afternoon she was transferred to Mt. Carmel West in O'Fallon. This is a nursing facility and she is in the physical therapy wing. This is closer to their home and Jim is able to spend more time with her. She currently has use of both of her hands, however the left hand still needs therapy. She is still unable to walk. She is able to express clear thoughts, her memory seems fine and her speech is good. Her vision is also skewed. Emotionally and physically she is drained, which is not uncommon with stroke patients.
Because of the physical setbacks associated with the strokes, she has not been able to begin treatment for her cancer. Which is another step back.
Jim, my sisters and I want to thank you for the prayers and well wishes. They are greatly appreciated.
Thanks again.
Kim
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This all seemed to happen so very fast and that's a blessing for her and the family. But won't we miss her?
Blessings,
SheliaAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-968091170889353020.post-55034425099052433442016-03-01T06:21:54.539-07:002016-03-01T06:21:54.539-07:00Hi Karie!
